Why do CEOS need executive coaching?
CEOs are almost always high-achieving, highly-driven individuals, but the role of CEO requires people to look beyond their individual performance and drive success throughout the organisation.
Many CEOs, especially those that have already achieved great success, can lack awareness of how their actions impact those under their command. This becomes especially important to address during a downturn in company performance or when the business is moving in the wrong direction.
Many CEOs need help finding strategies to manage conflict, listen better, delegate more and share leadership responsibilities, to name but a few common issues. Coaching provides a safe and confidential space for CEOs to work through leadership challenges with an independent expert and find solutions that can drive individual and business success.
Why do CEOs need coaching?
CEOs have much in common with elite athletes, yet while you’ll be hard pressed to find an athlete that doesn’t employ the services of a coach some CEOs do not take advantage of the support and guidance the best coaches provide.
We believe CEOs should adopt an athlete’s mindset and think of themselves as an elite member of the board who can leverage the experience of an executive coach to enhance their own skills and improve their already high performance.
Many leading CEOs already engage with a team of executive coaches, drawing upon their particular area of expertise. CEOs and senior executives often turn to AGP for support and guidance throughout their careers.
We focus on developing their authentic leadership style while encouraging behaviours that enable them to adapt to ever-changing circumstances and unlock the potential of those around them.
What does AGP’s CEO coaching process look like?
AGP has worked with top performing FTSE 250 CEOs during our 30 years of executive search. We know what great looks like and offer the comfort of talking to someone who speaks your language.
Our CEO Coaches use a variety of different tools and techniques to help CEOs deliver exceptional results for their organisation. These include a transformational learning questionnaire, which provides an opportunity to receive 360 feedback and use the results to formulate and implement development plans. These are not mandatory but do provide a good starting point for discussion.
Our programmes are flexible, however we suggest a minimum of four sessions is required to put CEOs firmly on the path to sustained self-improvement. We also offer a complimentary discovery session prior to any leadership coaching, to explore how you and your coach might work together.
A session normally lasts for two hours. We think of the process in terms of a two-way conversation during which our coach will ask powerful questions and challenge current thinking, feelings or behaviours. Our carefully curated questions help you self-identify your own solutions, so you instinctively know the actions you need to take to improve your performance.
Our coaches understand the urgency for some coaching needs and will make themselves available to ensure time-pressured CEOs achieve their desired goals, in their given timeframes.

Testimonials
Our clients trust us to find the right person at the first time of asking
I would recommend Tony in a heartbeat.
Tony has a wide network across the UK retail market and knows what’s going on across sectors. Tony is able to match his clients to candidates in smart partnerships with close consideration of cultural fit, which is very rare in my experience.
As a candidate, Tony always kept me updated on the progress of any project and then remained in touch throughout the assignment, providing valuable executive support and advice.
I am always grateful that Tony picks up the phone to me frequently with such interesting opportunities
Following a change in career direction, I was fortunate enough to work with Tony in some 1:1 coaching sessions. Tony’s style of coaching is excellent – he builds rapport easily and asks probing, perceptive questions that enabled me to clarify my thought processes.
His challenging but empathetic style really delivered for me. He encouraged me to self-reflect and recognise my underlying concerns. Once I had this clarity, he really helped me to identify and evaluate potential options and alternatives.
I came away from our coaching sessions with real insight into my concerns and a clear action plan to make the positive changes I needed.
I have known Tony for some time both as a client and candidate and he never fails to impress. He quickly and efficiently understands the brief and then delivers strong candidates who have the necessary skills and expertise.
Tony invests time in both his clients and his candidates even when there is nothing specific to discuss. This is what makes him a great search specialist: he is approachable, engaging, warm and incredibly well-networked.
